What brings four women together in West Gidding, a village near cultural, cosmopolitan London?
Scarlett Hughes is a sexy, dark haired teacher who was a Bluebell dancer in Paris in her youth. Zara James, an eccentric gallery owner, who escaped from what was then Yugoslavia, harbours a secret. Felicity Green is a talented water colourist, who refuses to have children in order to carve out a place for herself in a male-dominated art world. And then there is Moira Capaldi, a former international air hostess, who comes all the way from Sydney, Australia.
Resigning from an established career in education, vacating her marital apartment overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and abandoning her wayward husband, Guido, Moira arrives in West Gidding to follow her passion for art and develop her painting skills.
Instead the neatly-devised plans are disrupted when unexpected romance seeks her out on the quiet Greek Island of Leros, and Australia lures her back for a short visit with devastating consequences. Will she return to West Gidding?
And finally, does Moira need to address the demons of her past before she can embrace true happiness in the present?

"She had forgotten how the fifteenth century flint cottages with handkerchief sized gardens formed an irregular line down the length of Main Street."
"They had finally arrived in the parking space for walkers and she was ready to enjoy the scenery."
"It had to be back to the old haunts for her, though she refused to return to her home suburb."
